Achieving excellence from the start
The expectations for excellence in elementary education are dramatically different than they were just five years ago. Today’s students must become not only academically proficient, but also capable of adapting their classroom learning to real-life situations. Moreover, schools need to skillfully leverage new communication technologies to bridge the real world with the classroom. This type of applied knowledge was once reserved for high school and college students; now it is important for students to gain these experiences in earlier grades.
Our philosophy on homework
We believe that homework is an invaluable tool that enables students to continue to explore the subjects they discuss during the day. Learning does not end with the final class period of the day. Young people need to gradually develop independent study habits to carry them well into the future. We set an increasing amount of homework for students each year, beginning with the first grade. The goal of each homework assignment is to allow for continual practice of subject matter that will lead to the mastery of each concept.
Academic Testing
The Honor Roll School administers a nationally recognized test to grades one through eight each fall. Test scores indicate the students’ basic skills in areas such as vocabulary, reading comprehension, sentence structure, grammar, punctuation, math, and problem solving.
