How do you nurture middle school students?
Allow them some independence.

Middle School (Grades 5-8)

Middle school students thrive when they are given more responsibility. Our students rotate from class to class after they check into homeroom each day. Mornings are spent studying core subjects and afternoons are filled with electives. Students lay a foundation for success beginning in the 5th grade. We introduce students to study skills including time management, organization note-taking and test-taking. These skills not only serve students well during these critical years, but also well into the future.

Subjects covered through the middle school years include: English literature, grammar, writing skills, and vocabulary development. Students also explore U.S. and world history, as well as current events. Math studies include algebra and geometry. French, Spanish, geography, and computer skills continue to be explored, as well. The P.E. program has been expanded to include Community Recreation activities such as rock climbing, ice skating, aquatics, and personal training. These activities instill habits for lifelong physical fitness. Opportunities also exist for middle school students to begin exploring areas of particular interest to them. Electives cover a wide spectrum of possibilities such as speech and debate, creative writing, poetry, musical theater, yearbook, photography, choir, band, information technology, art, journalism, chess, and SAT preparation. By the time they finish the 8th grade, our students have a head start on a very well rounded future.
